LEGO How To Train Your Dragon | Recreation Scene

After seeing the third movie, my interest for this trilogy grew a ton. I just had to do something. If you've kept up with my twitter, you can see the process for me making the rigs of these 2. But here's an animation to finally put those rigs to the test. I plan to make another one when I'm back from out of town. So stay tuned for that.

Dude, this is stunning. I love it!

Wow! This is simply amazing!

Incredible work!
This is the first CG brickfilm I’ve ever seen and I really enjoyed.

What softwares did you use to make this?

Autodesk Maya.

Only? Didn't you use maybe Stud.io or LDD or similiar softwares for lego bricks?

Well Autodesk Maya for the animation. Mecabricks for most of the models and Stud.io for pieces Mecabricks doesn't have.

Perfect!
Another question: How did you make decals? Are they maps applied in Maya?

A friend of mine draw Hiccups for me, then just applied it to the his meshes, UV mapped correctly.

Toothless was the same way, I drew some quick scales in Photoshop, applied them to certain parts of his body, and took the same texture and turned it into a bump map and applied it to the scale textures.
